Goya Champuru was on my list to eat! It’s a specialty in Okinawa. I went to a little restaurant called Mikado in Naha and was very happy with the meal. It came with rice and miso soup. Goya (Bitter Melon) was cooked with tofu, egg and spam meat. This made a brilliant breakfast and I was stuffed full for only the price of 650 Yen. The lovely ladies that worked there were very welcoming and sweet. There’s many things to try for a decent price, definitely recommend this place for breakfast, lunch or dinner, depending on what you fancy.
I heard there are many health benefits from eating Goya, it’s supposed to make your skin look healthier, help people with asthma, flush out kidney stones, and treats hangovers, and many other things. Some elderly folks told me it’s good for keeping cool in summer. I did see on the menu at Mikado that they had Goya Juice, I may give that a try in the future during hot weathers.
