Chapter 88: Shuri Castle, 2017

Shuri Castle, 2017.

Unfortunately this year the castle was under referbishment but it was still opened for visitors. The thing I love most about Okinawa was the fact the history is very well preserved at the castle, so rich and unique. It was the home of the Ryukyu kings for many centuries until Okinawa became part of Japan. The historical clothing and decorations seemed more Chinese than anything else.

When arriving you can purchase your ticket at the counter or at the machine. It’s 820 Yen / Adult Admission fee. Shoes will have to be taken off, you are given a white plastic bag to store them in and carry around. A lot of the insides do not permit photography, so you have to look out for the signs. I spent about 1.5 hours at the castle and it was like entering another world. If you’re in Naha Okinawa, this is a must goto place!! It’s very easy to get to on the Yui Mono Rail.
