Chapter 220: Statues Wearing Red

On the way back to Kamakura Station, I encountered some more stone statues, this time with red hats and bibs. I didn’t know why this was the case, first thing that came to mind was ‘Maybe they get cold?’ But like most things in Japan it carries a deeper meaning and reasoning for this. I found out red is a powerful colour that repels demons and rids of illnesses, in other countries like China, Red is a symbol for good luck. However, during my journeys I’ve spotted some statues that had different coloured bibs, cloaks and hats, some even knitted with floral patterns. It leaves me fascinated with the adorable Japanese decorated statues.
