Iya Valley’s Peeing Boy Statue (祖谷渓の小便小僧)
The last peeing boy statue I saw was in Belgium Brussels, the Manneken Pis. So it was sort of unexpected to find something like this in the middle of the mountain area. But, it is one of the main attractions of Iya Valley, located 200 meters above sea level!! The statue stands at the edge of a protruding rock and it is a very dangerous spot where it is said that a long long time ago, for whatever reason, local kids and travellers would test their courage by urinating over the edge and into the gorge. Thus, a statue was made and placed here!

Funny. There’s one at Hamamatsucho Train Station in Tokyo as well. Platform 2 if I remember correctly.

I’ve seen the one in Brussels and I really can’t see why they make such a fuss when there are so many splendid things in The city.

Wow… I saw this image frequently but not aware this is located in this valley. Crazy for sure but unique to test the courage of any one. Week hearted one can die or fall down 😂😅

I was there a few years ago, stayed at a very nice ryokan next to the site. The statue is quite the popular attraction! And boy that’s a steep cliff.
