Rock-Breaking Sakura Tree (石割桜) Ishiwari Zakura.
One of the places you have a visit when you’re in Morioka is the Ishiwari Zakura. It’s approx between 350-400 years old and it’s one of Japan’s longest living Sakura trees. One of the most unusual yet amazing things about this tree is how it’s breaking through a rock hence the name. Located just outside the Morioka District Court House, it stands 11 metres tall. The famous tree is Morioka’s symbol for endurance against all hardships. You just can not miss it!
