It was end of April this year and it was freezing. This hot tea saved me…It started raining and there was hail. I thought I wasn’t going to make it…It’s such a brilliant idea to have cold and hot drinks from vending machines.

Hot milk tea from either a vending machine or a convenience store was something I bought regularly on colder days when I was in Japan. Sometimes I’d use a hot bottle to warm up my hands before drinking it.

The vending machines are on almost every corner in Japanese cities. The heat was energy-sapping when I was there, so I became a fan of Pocari Sweat and similar isotonic drinks – served ice cold!
