Chapter 819: The Ishinomori Manga Museum (石ノ森萬画館)

The Ishinomori Manga Museum (石ノ森萬画館)

The city Ishinomaki is famous for it’s manga museum and being a manga and anime fan, I made a visit to the space ship building located on a a piece of land called Nakaze (中瀬) surrounded by the The Kitakami River (北上川).

Getting there by foot is no problem, it’s only approx 15-20 mins depending on your speed. It’s a pleasant walk because you will get distracted by the cool anime statues! I visited on the 2nd of May last year, and it was bang on golden week so a lot of parents took their kids to the museum. But, the streets in generally very quiet and the weather was super great that day!

Admission is 800 Yen per adult. Each ticket you get from the machine is different. So it’s like a souvenir! Keep it!! The museum features art work by Shotaro Ishinomori (石ノ森 章太郎). The most popular works he is known for is Cyborg 009 and Kamen Rider. When growing up in the UK I remember watching something similar, the Power Rangers. It was like a big hit with the kids back in school, but I can’t watch it again as an adult because it’s cheesy.

Slowly slowly the herd of families and kids shuffling about to enter the exhibition. I was pretty cool to some amazing art works too. I was going to go to the cafe to try some themed food but it was so packed I decided it was best to leave it and move on. Definitely worth visiting if you do goto Ishinomaki.

  1. Very interesting museum! 😀 Love how the museum showcases the Heisei-era Masked Riders! (Only one of ’em made it to Western audiences – Kamen Rider Ryuki, which was subsequently remade into Kamen Rider Dragon Knight.)
