On the Shiroyama Observation Deck there are a few steps towards the back to go up to a small area where it has some memorial stones and planted trees of royal visits. There was also a very cute Jizo statue wearing a straw hat and a red knitted head piece. It had a ceramic Japanese tea cup on the side, and 1 paper cup, plus interestingly enough, a red post box for inserting coins. Jizo statues usually wear red as red is a lucky colour where it is believed in Japan since ancient times to ward off evil.
