Toyokuni Shrine 5-Storied Pagoda (豊国神社 五重塔)
The vibrant vermillion 5-storied pagoda is right beside the wooden Toyokuni Shrine. The shrine is dedicated to the war-lord ‘Toyotomi Hideyoshi’. It’s one of Miyajima’s landmarks and tourist hot-spot. You will have to climb some stairs to reach the top, sometimes you’ll see deers are in the bushes!
The shrine has a small admission fee of 100 Yen for adults, when I arrived it was closing time so…That was bad luck. Opening times are usually between 8am to 4:30pm. But it was ok, I was still able to admire closely the beautiful pagoda! The deity worshiped here is the god of medicine.
The pagoda was originally built using the Japanese style of design, but there was a bit of influence by the Chinese. So the design itself is very unique and beautiful resembling lotus flowers.
